At the end of Round 2, the club’s youngest member is leading the field. The evening featured many tense rated and casual matches, including a notable battle of the Seans which is captured below. Sean Kelly, who is new to rated chess, had the white pieces in this back and forth game against Sean Pry who played the Modern variation of the Scandinavian defense. Though Pry secured the win after a key moment in which only one move keeps the game in parity (see if you can find the move), it is clear that Sean Kelly is a formidable opponent.
The following are the standings of the Inaugural Swiss at the end of Round 2 (of 5 total). Players may join the Swiss any week and are not required to play each round. I hope to see you all next week on Tuesday, September 19th for Round 3.
