Let’s dive into the latest happenings from this week at Media Chess Club.
Swiss Champion and Director Extraordinaire
Hats off to Aaron Biscoe! Not only did he clinch the title of the Opening Moves Swiss with an impressive score of 3 points, but he also donned the hat of the tournament director for the first time. Coincidence or not, he managed both roles with remarkable finesse. Jokes aside, Aaron’s achievement sets a promising tone for 2024. Can he maintain this winning momentum, or will the other club members rise to the challenge?
Be sure to check out the detailed results on the USCF website and Chess Nut.
Pizza Night: Mark Your Calendars!
Our next Pizza Night is on the horizon for February 6th! Get ready for a treat, as Cedar Creek Catering will be back with their famously delicious pizzas. After the rave reviews from our last event, we’ve gone ahead and placed a larger order to ensure there’s plenty of that cheesy goodness to go around.
Join us a bit early to indulge in not just pizza, but also a variety of refreshments and snacks. It’s a chance to unwind, socialize, and enjoy some of the best pizzas around. Don’t miss out on what promises to be a delightful evening!
Our Newest Chess Enthusiast
A warm welcome to our newest member, Nathalie! She’s just stepping into the world of rated play but already shows the promise of a strong competitor. We’re excited to see her journey unfold in the club.
Thanks to David Difuntorum
A shout-out to David Difuntorum of Difuntorum Photography for his pro bono photography services to our club. You might have spotted him capturing some artistic shots of chess pieces in action – one of his stunning photographs is featured at the top of this post. Check out his work at DaveDif.com.
Club Contributions: Supporting Our Chess Community
As our club continues to grow and host rated tournaments and special events like our much-loved pizza nights, we’re inviting members who are able to contribute $20 annually to support these initiatives. This contribution is voluntary. Whether or not you choose to contribute financially, your presence and participation in the club are what truly matter and are greatly appreciated by all of us.
We’re also looking for volunteers to help with event organization, the newsletter, and tournament directing. If you’re interested in contributing your skills, please reach out.
Bonus Chess Entertainment
We had the privilege of hosting a makeup match from the West Chester Chess Club Championship, showcasing a nail-biting game between Denis Markov and Nate Bryans that went the distance. Expect more WCCC championship matches at our venue in the coming weeks, adding an extra layer of chess excitement to our meetings.
Looking forward to seeing everyone next Tuesday, January 30th for the start of the Winter Warrior Swiss, and as always, thank you for making our club a fantastic place to enjoy chess!
