Do you find yourself lying awake at night envisioning chess pieces sliding across an imaginary chess board on your ceiling? Even if your passion for the game hasn’t grown that strong (yet), we curated a select list of local programs and instructors that can help you accomplish your goals, whether you are looking to improve rapidly or just enjoy this beautiful game. To help narrow the list further, we’ve fit the programs into one or more of the following categories:
Children | Beginner – I’d like to spark or nurture my child’s interested in chess, but don’t want to risk extinguishing it by throwing them into a hyper competitive environment. With all of our recommendations, you should expect to see improvement; however, the emphasis here is on ensuring participants enjoy themselves.
Adults | Beginner – I or someone I know would like to get more involved in chess without signing up for anything intimidating or overly competitive.
Experienced – I or someone I know has been playing for a while and is interested in taking their game to a higher level.
Before we get started, we should note that our recommendations skew toward in-person and local. There are plenty of amazing online resources which we can share; however, these are already widely covered elsewhere. Additionally, this page will be updated as new information emerges regarding quality programs in our area. If you hear of anything or have feedback on any of our recommendations, please let us know!
